Deschooling & Healing School Wounds

It is unfortunate that many people have experienced trauma or wounds from their school years, and it is not uncommon for individuals to carry these issues with them into adulthood. However, when it comes to homeschooling, it is important to address and heal these wounds in order to create a positive learning environment for your family.

Deschooling is a crucial step in this process, as it involves examining and challenging our preconceptions about what learning should look like. It is important to acknowledge that our traditional education system is not perfect and can often be harmful to individuals.

In order to truly understand and implement deschooling, some individuals may need extra support and guidance. This is where the series of healing sessions come in, which are designed to assist in the process of healing past school wounds and creating a more joyful learning experience for your family.

The sessions are tailored to each individual's needs and utilize various modalities to promote self-care and healing. Whether conducted online or in-person, these sessions are a valuable support for anyone seeking to deschool and create a natural, flowing learning environment in their home.

Just Released is the Think Clear Machine.

The Think Clear machine uses a patented design to deliver a special electrical signal to the body that calms the amygdala.
The amygdala is a part of the brain responsible for the fight or flight response, and it helps protect us from potential threats or dangers.

How can this be used in your Home school?

It relaxes the brain, calms the system so learning can take place.

Your child may have anxiety around learning, or anything that resembles learning due to negative school experiences. This machine is amazing to bypass all that anxiety and have them engaging in learning in no time at all.

I have been fortunate to be apart of the trials and it has been phenomenal and life changing.

So much so that I use this in sessions with clients to release trauma from their world.

What is Home schooling really about?

all kids at water fall

This is what Home Schooling looks like in my family. Many trips away, visiting family and friends. Spending quality time exploring in a conscious and authentic manner so we may expand ourselves and learn about our environment.

In today's world, technology has given us so much, but it seems like parents are losing touch with themselves and trying to live up to philosophies and ideas as if they are scripts for an Instagram reel or YouTube stream. The pressure to follow the steps and plan everything perfectly can be overwhelming, but is it really the best way to live?

At the core of homeschooling is the ability to know ourselves and think for ourselves. What are the values and goals that we have as authentic souls? And what about our children? We must understand that not all scripts suit everyone, and we are not perfect snippets of life shown on social media or in well-produced live streams.

While it's okay to have an overview of what you want, planning everything to the last detail doesn't account for the bloopers, the mess-ups, and the real stuff of life. When our children challenge us, where is the script then? Does it even work? When do we get to just be, to exist in all our glory, our mess, our exploration, joy, and sadness? When do we get to live and experience being a parent and caregiver and learn to reconnect with our authentic self?

Unfortunately, kids are being forced into formal education earlier and earlier so parents can go out and work, trying to live up to unrealistic Insta Reels and TikToks. But why can't we just enjoy that short time with our kids? Isn't growing and guiding a child just as valuable, if not more valuable, than those live streams that are all scripted and produced?

At our home, we believe that our culture is forcing us away from authentic parenting and into a cookie-cutter approach. We are made to feel guilty for going back to work or for staying home. Child care and preschools are useful tools to have access to, but they are not all there is. We can choose alternatives, and it's essential to know what our choices are.

So, if you're looking to reconnect with your authentic self and provide an education for your children that truly reflects your values and goals, then look no further. Join us and discover the joy of authentic homeschooling!

Why we home school.

Why We Choose to Homeschool: Freedom!

My husband and I made a decision early on that if we were blessed with children, we would raise them ourselves and not depend on child care. This meant we had to live within our means of one full-time income. We were both willing to work or stay home or do a combination of both. At that stage, we didn't even consider education because we didn't have kids yet! But we had established values around child rearing.

Once our kids arrived, and as I was studying for a Diploma in Children Services, my studies led me to many educational theorists. It became apparent that children were not wired to learn by sitting down, staying still, and being micromanaged at such an early age. It was important for a child's development that they move their little bodies as much as they needed. Traditional school did not seem to honor this, and frankly, they couldn't. Imagine managing a class of 25 children, you have to 'control' them somehow (much respect to teachers).

So I embarked on research into alternatives to mainstream education. I was introduced to Dr. Maria Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf Steiner, and homeschooling. What became apparent was that the main difference between mainstream education and these alternatives was that the alternatives were child-centered. They approached education in a holistic manner and respected the children as individuals who had the ability to learn if given the right environment.

Where we lived, there were no alternatives to mainstream education. So I reached out to the local homeschool community and was pleasantly surprised. There were so many more than I thought, and so diverse. And again, a majority of the homeschoolers I met were child-focused. They respected their children and believed they could learn and thrive if given the correct environment. What better place to learn than your own home, the first place you learned so much! As an infant, a toddler, and preschooler, it is where you learn first.

So why stop when we were onto such a good thing? And besides, school was going nowhere. It is always an option, but I am so grateful that I knew I had choices. I had the choice to send my children to school or legally homeschool them, and it's not hard. I can show you how.

So this is how we've continued to homeschool, 10 years on, and boy, have I learned a lot!

"Thanks so much Annmarie for your caring, loving and nuturing support! I always look forward to catching up and being encouraged as a mum and woman that I'm doing well." -- Kylie

Deschool to Bring Natural Learning & Flow to your Home.

Have you ever considered deschooling as a way to live a school-free life? Deschooling involves confronting and overcoming the fears and doubts that come with living in a society that values formal education.

Children who have attended traditional schools may feel accustomed to being constantly supervised and directed from one activity to another. They may also worry that they are not learning enough or fear that they will fall behind their schooled peers. Deschooling requires a lot of support for children, and this can only come from adults who have also gone through the process themselves.

If you are not actively working to deschool, you may end up adding more stress to your child's life. Deschooling provides the space and opportunity to reclaim our freedom, rediscover lost relationships, values, and connections, and to re imagine what our lives could be.

Please contact me in regards to our next program commencement.

It’s such a joy to be home with my children, to have the opportunity to really know them and what they are learning, and to help facilitate thier learning in ways that work best for each of them. – Wendy Woerner

I think this was wise; the greatest service we can to education today is to teach few subjects. No one has time to do more than a very few things well before he is twenty, and when we force a boy to be a mediocrity in a dozen subjects we destroy his standards, perhaps for life.” ~ C.S Lewis
